We have a limited amount of Genuine Mk.4 British Steel helmets available. These are all dated early Fifties so are nearly 60 years old and make tremendous collector's items. The Mk.4 was commonly referred to as the "tortoise" or "turtle shell" helmet.
Introduced in 1945, the Mk.4 helmet is only slightly different from its predecessor the Mk.3 helmet which was issued to troops taking part in the Normandy landings in June 1944. The main difference is that the chinstrap is attached to the helmet at a lower point, and the liner is attached to the helmet by a "lift the dot" system (pulling on the tab marked LIFT removes the liner from the central dot which it is attached to). A primary reason for these changes was that the helmet could easily be used as a water-carrying vessel.
Very limited availability. Size 54cm is marked as 6 3/4". Size 60cm is marked as 7 1/2".
