The 101st Airborne Division was formed in the US on 15 August 1942. Since the official patch depicted an American Bald Eagle's head, the nickname of the Division became 'The Screaming Eagles'. The Division served in vital WW2 actions in Europe during D-Day, Market Garden, the Battle of the Bulge and the Rhineland and Austria Campaigns. After WW2 the Screaming Eagles were called upon during the Korean, Vietnam and Iraq conflicts. Today the US 101st Air Assault Division still has a Bastogne Brigade, honoring the Screaming Eagles most famous stand in the Divisional History.
